Possessing raw talent is vital
The fact is, while possessing raw talent is certainly vital to their success, even the most amazingly talented individuals need someone to show them exactly how to use their skills and help them hone those skills further. Indeed, if you asked most of the world’s top athletes what the key to their success was, nearly all of them would say it was great coaching.
When it comes to entrepreneurship it’s very much the same thing. Most entrepreneurs have skills, drive and raw talent but, like a professional athlete, they need guidance from someone who’s “been there and done that”.

That person is a Mentor, someone who has been in the business for a long time (in most cases), has lots of hands-on experience and can guide you using that experience.
If you think about it, it really makes quite a bit of sense. If you’ve just started your own business, or even if you’ve been in it for a couple of years, you’re bound to have questions, challenges and occasional frustrations when you come up against situations that you haven’t faced before.
Being able to bounce those questions off of someone who has faced those situations, whose opinion you trust implicitly, and who has the experience to guide you, can be extremely valuable and help you to make better decisions.
Hold yourself accountable
Also, like a professional athlete, having a mentor means having someone that will hold you accountable, give you unbiased feedback and, when necessary, give you the constructive criticism you need to keep you on the right track, business-wise.
In fact, many of the giants of business today will tell you that they owe a lot of their success to their mentor, the person that they choose to go to as a guide, coach and confidant.
If you’re an entrepreneur facing challenges, if you have many questions that you can’t seem to answer on your own or you find that you’re becoming stagnant and not moving forward in your business, it might not be for lack of skill but instead experience and the knowledge it brings.
